Following your thread vein treatment with us, our team will talk you through the specific aftercare process to help you recover fast, prevent infection and ensure your treatment is as effective as possible. Below is a summary of what you should expect after thread vein treatment and a summary of the aftercare instructions our team will provide you with.

After Veinwave treatment, it is completely normal to observe redness and slightly raised areas which should diminish within a few days.
Patchy dry skin or light scabbing may also occur. In such cases, it is advisable to refrain from touching the area, exfoliating, or picking at the skin.
For a duration of one week following the treatment, avoid engaging in vigorous exercise, sauna sessions, sunbathing, laser procedures, waxing, shaving, facial massage, facial exfoliation, and swimming.
The treated veins will gradually fade over a period of 4-6 weeks after the treatment. It is important to note that a single session may not be sufficient, and additional treatments might be necessary. Typically, a minimum of two to four treatment sessions are recommended to achieve optimal results, with a spacing of 4-6 weeks between each session.
For the first 24 hours, it is advisable to use only water to cleanse your skin and avoid using cleansers and toners.
We recommend waiting 24-48 hours before applying makeup to the treated areas.
Aloe vera gel can be highly beneficial for soothing and calming the treated skin. Apply it to the treated areas as needed.Y
ou may resume your regular skincare routine, including the use of SPF, after 24 hours. However, it is recommended to avoid harsh, perfumed, astringent, acid-based, or alcohol-based products for approximately 1 week.
To help prevent the appearance of further thread veins, it is important to regularly apply SPF 50 to your skin. Limit your sun exposure, particularly avoiding the use of sunbeds.
Following the treatment, the treated thread veins may appear slightly red and inflamed. This is a normal reaction, and the inflammation will typically subside within 2-3 weeks as your body absorbs the treated veins.
Gradual fading of the thread veins is expected, with some veins completely disappearing within 4-6 weeks after the treatment. However, each patient and thread vein responds uniquely to the treatment, so individual results may vary.
In some cases, multiple treatment sessions may be necessary to achieve optimal results, as the effectiveness of Sclerotherapy can vary depending on the area being treated.
We generally recommend a waiting period of 4-6 weeks between treatments to allow the inflamed veins sufficient time to settle and heal.
Bruising or tenderness may occur, but these symptoms are typically mild and resolve within a few days.
It is normal to experience a stinging or burning sensation immediately after the treatment. However, this discomfort usually improves within a few hours. Any residual pain is typically minimal and resolves within 1-2 days.
Micro Sclerotherapy is highly effective in reducing the appearance of thread veins. However, during the healing process, temporary brown discoloration, known as pigmentation, may develop in the treated areas. This pigmentation usually resolves over weeks to months as the body absorbs the treated veins. If your skin tends to pigment easily, the healing process may take longer.
In the clinic, we will have applied cotton roll dressings to the injected areas, secured with tape to provide direct pressure. It is recommended to keep these dressings on and ensure they remain dry for 2 days. Some patients find wearing 40 denier tights helpful in keeping the dressings in place.
After the initial two days, you may find it easier to remove the dressings by soaking them in the shower or bath.
Maintain your normal activities, including regular walking throughout the day.
We advise refraining from flying for a full 7 days after treatment to reduce the risk of developing deep vein thrombosis.
It is recommended to avoid prolonged standing and strenuous physical activities such as high-impact aerobics, weightlifting, and running for 1 week after treatment.
Hot baths, saunas, and sunbathing should be avoided for at least 1 week following treatment, as they can increase inflammation and prolong the healing process. If you are exposed to the sun, ensure you apply SPF 50+ on the treated areas.
It is best to refrain from leg waxing for 4-6 weeks, as it may further irritate the skin.
In the rare instance of developing an area of increasing redness, hotness, and pain that does not improve with pain relief, please contact our aftercare team and provide pictures of the affected area at aftercare@ukveinclinic.com. If you experience severe pain following treatment, you can also reach out to our office team via email at clinic@ukveinclinic.com or by phone at 020 3002 2274.
