Spider veins on the nose

While spider veins on the nose are generally harmless and are unlikely to cause pain, for some they can be unsightly and a cause for concern. The good news is, there is treatment available to remove thread veins on the nose in a safe and pain-free way. But first, let's find out what thread veins are and why some people have them.

What are spider veins on the nose?

Spider veins, also known as thread veins on the nose, are small, dilated blood vessels that appear close to the surface of the skin. Spider veins are medically known as ‘telangiectasia’ and are often red or blue in colour resembling the legs of a spider, hence the name ‘spider veins’. Thread veins can be visible on various parts of the body, including the nose and face.

Why do I have spider veins on my nose?

Thread veins can be prominent on the nose and can appear as fine, branching lines or clusters of tiny blood vessels. They can be caused by a variety of different factors, including:

Genetics
You are more likely to experience spider veins on the nose if you have a family history of thread veins or other vascular conditions.

Ageing
Our skin becomes thinner and less elastic as we age, meaning spider veins are likely to become more visible on our skin, especially our face and nose.

Sun Exposure
The blood vessel walls can get weaker when exposed to the sun, which can contribute to the development of thread veins on the nose.

Injury
Trauma to the nose or facial area can damage blood vessels which can increase the chances of spider veins appearing.

Hormone Changes
Fluctuations in hormones, typically in pregnancy or menopause can contribute to the development of spider veins.

How to get rid of spider veins on the nose

UK Vein Clinic's sister company Dr Newmans Clinic only uses the most effective, safest methods for removing thread veins on the nose. Veinwave is a specialist treatment which uses ‘thermal coagulation’ - a process that collapses and seals the damaged veins so that they can be naturally reabsorbed back into the body. Veinwave, also known as ‘Thermavein’ is a non-invasive method that involves targeting heat to seal and remove spider veins on the nose but is not a type of laser therapy.
